If you are in delhi, please do show the solidarity. In 2012 when something horrific shook the nation, its the same kind of protests that made a change. These incidents happen to all sections of the society but this should by driven by students now because it is our problem and everyone involved in this can contribute to find a solution - lets hope this is not short-lived- this unfortunate event happened in one particular place- it can happen just about anywhere else too. Hope this is a beginning of debate towards a long term solution - this concentrated urbanisation is simply unsustainable now

🅾️Context : tragic incident of 3 IAS aspirants dying due to flooding in a basement coaching center in New Delhi.

🅾️Issues

⚜️1. Human negligence and inadequate enforcement of building codes and safety regulations.

⚜️3. Lack of specific measures to make buildings flood-resilient, such as proper drainage systems, flood-barrier gates, and non-return valves on plumbing lines

⚠️This is not just another news/issue for us, because You EXPERIENCED the gravity of the situation- Because this is our problem, we feel this pain. As aspiring bureaucrats, i urge you all to start empathising with every such problem.

When you become a bureaucrat in the future, people will look up to you with hope. REMEMBER these days ( Especially the ones writing mains)- Koi bhi desh perfect nahi hota hai, use perfect banaana padta hai.(a perfect country isn't born, it's built)

🔰The ones who couldn't clear prelims this year are asking their friends who cleared to go back to studies as UPSC waits for none. Dear candidates who are writing this mains, Please remember this gesture. I am not preaching anything today, all I am asking for is to REMEMBER this pain, this support , the empathy you continue to get. You can go back to studies, but REMEMBER that someone else was fighting for you.

To be contd- Part 2-

⚠️Part 1 of this personal appeal- Click here

🅾️The past few months have taken a toll on our psyche, hitting rock bottom. But let's CHANNELISE THIS ANGER and FRUSTRATION into something positive. Years later, you'll have to PAY BACK with EMPATHY and gratitude. You're INDEBTED to those who trusted you.
Remember this moment when you're tempted to turn a blind eye. You may make mistakes, but you'll have the chance to correct them. DON'T BECOME THE PERSON WHO WRONGED YOU - break the vicious cycle.

🅾️ Many years ago, I was just a guy with broken dreams and having lost all hope and felt disillusioned but today I have the opportunity of communicating what i want to say to atleast 1 lakh plus aspirants. I hope this message touches atleast 1 soul. YES, THERE Is pain but THERE IS HOPE TOO. Don't give up on our country, my friend! Let's build a better tomorrow, together.

Gs-2 : Fundamental rights-Article 19- Freedom of expression- Debate- various dimensions

🅾️Context : Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2024- Data from CSDS-Lokniti surveys shows the growing importance of digital media, with 29% of respondents consuming political material online daily. This highlights the shift from traditional media to digital platforms for news and information.

🅾️What is the bill about?- The bill proposes strict regulations for digital content creators, requiring them to register and adhere to guidelines. It introduces categories like "Digital News Broadcasters" and "OTT Broadcasters" to bring these under regulatory purview.

🅾️Why is this a problem?- The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is granted extensive powers to require registration and block content deemed harmful, with broad and vague criteria-Potentially creating an environment of censorship

GS2- Judiciary- Judicial reforms

🅾️Context : Law commission as a constitutional body-
Click here ( This is a very old debate)

⚠️This article says that The Law Commission of India (LCI) has been ineffective, with only 50% of its recommendations implemented. A new dynamic body like the Legal Advisory Council (LAC) is needed to navigate the legal landscape with more agility and responsiveness. This is because LAC would be under Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), ensuring that its recommendations are directly integrated into the policymaking process.

Gs-3 : Mobilization of resources- Taxation- LTCG- Budget 2024

🅾️Context : Long-term gains on assets like property and investments will now be taxed at a flat rate of 12.5%, without considering inflation adjustments. For example, if you bought a house for ₹10 lakh in 2001 and sold it for ₹75 lakh in 2021, indexation would increase the purchase price to reflect inflation, thus lowering the taxable gain. Now that indexation benefit is removed.

🅾️What is the impact?- The response from the industry has been mixed. O
Removing indexation means investors can't adjust their purchase price for inflation. This results in higher taxable gains when they sell their assets, leading to more tax. Higher taxes might discourage people from making long-term investments, affecting their financial planning and market activityverall sentiment suggests that removing indexation could dampen investment enthusiasm.

A survey on Why Delhi is the hub of civil services aspirants.

🅾️I am not predicting a Doomsday but i feel that this is going to be the beginning of the End of Delhi's image as the "ONLY" hub of UPSC aspirants. Time has come for changes to fix this unsustainable concentrated urbanisation.

🅾️There are lessons for other cities too- Ashoknagar in Hyderabad, Vijaynagar in Bangalore, Anna Nagar in Chennai et al. Though not as bad as ORN- the conditions are definitely worsening for students. You need to have a definite answer as to why you are not able to study from home. FOMO should not be the answer.

⚠️P.s. VK IAS is not in Delhi, though placed out of Hyderabad, that does not stop us from expressing the solidarity with the aspirant community.

Gs-3 : Disaster Management - Landslides.

🅾️This wayand landslide topic falls under the GS-I syllabus, specifically under "Important Geophysical Phenomena." It also touches upon Disaster Management

🅾️Why wayanad faced this disaster?- 4 fold reasons

⚜️1. Natural Factors: The region's geography, including its location in the Western Ghats and the presence of steep slopes, makes it naturally prone to landslides. Heavy rainfall further exacerbates the situation.

⚜️2. Human-Induced Factors: Unsustainable land use practices

⚜️3. Lack of Regulation and Enforcement: Ex : Gadgil committee report -not implemented.

⚜️4. Inadequate Warning Systems: still under development for landslides

🔰Solutions- Think on these dimensions to generate content for mains : Sustainable land use planning, Disaster preparedness, Community awareness, Scientific research, Policy implementation

Gs-2 : Fundamental rights- Right to freedom of religion

🅾️Should anti conversion laws be named as religious freedom acts?-
Relevant Judgements

🅾️Purpose of the law in this news : To make the anti-conversion law as strict as possible to curb organized and planned involvement of foreign and anti-national elements in demographic changes due to unlawful conversion. But the law is likely to face constitutional challenges in courts, especially regarding whether these restrictions are reasonable and necessary in a democratic society that values religious freedom(
balance between state regulation and individual rights under Article 25)

Gs-3 : Disaster Management

🅾️Context : The Disaster Management Act (DM Act) was enacted in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami to create a comprehensive legal framework for disaster response and management in India.

🅾️Current Amendment: Seeks to address gaps in the original Act by expanding NDMA’s role and responsibilities but falls short of upgrading its institutional status.
